Introduction

Barrier options have a vanilla option payoff, with an added element known as a "barrier" (or trigger). The barrier can either Knock-In the option, Knock-Out the option or in some cases do both. Typically, the client can select the location of the barrier rate; it could be above or below the current market spot rate, or the option strike rate.
